Joe Peri
Jazz drummer Joe Peri is known as a “musical chameleon” by his peers and his experience runs the gamut of styles and contexts. Born in 1991 in Bergen County, New Jersey, Joe began playing the piano at age 6 and percussion at age 9 in his elementary school. His school music instructors pushed him to play in more advanced ensembles and he began studying privately with the percussion teacher Gary Fink. In high school, Joseph became more interested in playing the drumset and studied with such drummers as Robert Kaufman, Dion Parsons, Rich Thompson, and Richard Huntley. After one year in the Manhattan School of Music Precollege Division in his last year of high school, Joe went on to receive his Bachelor’s degree in 2013 and his Master’s degree in 2015 from Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with John Riley, Justin DiCioccio, and Rogerio Boccato. Since graduation, Joe Peri has worked as a freelance drummer, performing in a wide range of venues all around his home base of New York City, the rest of the United States, and Europe, with various ensembles and projects.
